The Potomac Chapter of the Appalachian Mountain Club was established in 1984 and includes Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, DC. It is the southernmost of 12 regional AMC chapters, which together support outdoor and conservation activities from Maine to Virginia.
Potomac Chapter outdoor activities include day-hiking, backpacking, paddling, biking, and social get-togethers. Activities can be found in the AMC Activities Database and on the Potomac Chapter’s Meetup page. Most Chapter outings do not require AMC membership, but we encourage you to join as club dues support AMC and Potomac Chapter conservation efforts and outdoor activities. Currently our Chapter membership is 3,000 members strong, and our Meetup membership also includes 3,000 outdoor enthusiasts.
COVID 19. The Chapter has resumed limited in-person programming with strict COVID precautions. Each activity is conducted in adherence with local regulations and has a strict limit on the number of participants, and requires mask-wearing, social distancing, and other precautions. Please join us if you would like. If you are not ready to venture out on one of our trips, you can still get involved! The Chapter is hosting monthly meetings where we talk about reopening, getting outside during the pandemic, and other topics around outdoor adventure. We are also hosting online social events and conservation webinars on various topics.
Are you concerned about the environment and eager to promote conservation? Join AMC’s Conservation Action Network and make a difference (even from your couch).
