Leadership Matters.

Most of AMC’s outdoor activities are led by trained volunteer leaders. We take pride in offering an array of outdoor leadership learning opportunities so that our leaders have skills appropriate for the events they lead. We encourage our members to become trained leaders in the outdoors activities they love so they can share their favorite places and experiences with others. Most trainings and instruction programs are led by volunteer trainers and leaders generally follow the same path to leadership.

Never been an outdoor activity Leader? Join the AMC Leadership Team and we will work with you to learn the skills and knowledge needed to lead. If leading outdoor activities is appealing to you, contact our Leadership Committee to find out more about our Chapter’s Leadership requirements.

Interested in becoming a leader with the chapter but not so sure about leading outdoor activities? Visit our Volunteer information page to learn more about exciting opportunities to help out with chapter management, programs, and committees.

By becoming an AMC Potomac Chapter outdoor activity Leader, the Chapter provides you with these benefits:

    * Cost of the first year of AMC membership fee (for new members)

    * Cost of First Aid training

    * Cost of AMC Leadership Training

    * Reimbursement for other training opportunities

  • Leadership Requirements

Different activities require different leadership skills, but leading any outdoor activity for the Chapter requires leaders to be AMC members, be age 18+, complete AMC leadership training, complete first aid training, and co-lead outdoor activities with an experienced leader.

Contact the Leadership Committee for detailed information about the requirements for leading activities that interest you.

We currently offer hiking, backpacking, biking, bikepacking, and paddling trips.

For more information regarding the process and requirements for becoming a leader, visit our Leadership Training page.

  • Leader Resources

AMC’s leader forms and manuals are available on the main AMC website. Some of the most frequently used documents are found in the Outdoor Leader Handbook and include the Trip Talk Card, the Incident Report, and the Waiver.

We also have templates for posting a Chapter trip in the Activities Database and on Meetup.
